Since 2011, our mission at Endless has been to connect the unconnected and close the digital divide. I am proud to say that we have grown far beyond our original product of Endless OS, an operating system which was focused on delivering digital agency and personal computers in the most remote regions of the world.
Two of the factors that remain constant in our quest at Endless are that the world is rapidly changing and we still have much more to do. One of the most important things that has contributed to our success at Endless is our agility and flexibility in the way we approach our mission. I am proud of both our ability to remain steadfastly committed to our mission and the way we continue to evolve our business in pursuit of our goals.
It is with this in mind that we would like to announce some exciting changes. We are moving Endless OS and Hack to a non-profit foundation. Although we started out as a commercial entity, we have been working towards this idea for years because we feel that a foundation is the right place for all of our efforts. Simply put, this change allows us to separate commercial demands from the real reason that we are doing this, which is to have impact.
This new alignment will allow us to partner with others who have similar DNA to have that impact. Our enthusiasm behind these changes also lies in what we will be able to do with others beyond our operating system. We now have the freedom to push everything we do upstream into open source communities. The possibilities remain ENDLESS.
These exciting changes come with a bit of mixed emotion. The entity known as Endless Mobile Inc. will be winding down and allowing us to reallocate our remaining resources on the work we would still like to accomplish. From the bottom of my heart, I am grateful for all of the team’s blood, sweat and tears and am extremely proud of every OS release, every app built, every computer shipped and every life we have touched with the incredible products we have built over the past 8 years. We could not have accomplished any of this without that talented and dedicated group of amazing people, and we want to honor their commitment by securing the future of Endless OS at the heart of our mission.
I am also extremely grateful for the steadfast belief, support, and guidance of our investors. They have remained at our side throughout our entire journey and I am incredibly grateful for their continued assistance throughout this latest transition.
To update you, our most recent efforts have been focused on bringing coding education to the United States through three initiatives: Hack uses Endless OS, a full personal computer operating system, to teach kids to code and create through both games and real-world engineering tools. Endless Studios is developing a collection of coding-based games called Terminal Two focused on inspiring the pursuit of learning in the next generation of gamers. Finally, The Endless Mission is a sandbox-style creation game built in partnership with E-Line Media. Collectively, these initiatives are built to be the most delightful way for kids to learn to code.
Our current work has not stopped here. In the last year and a half, we have also proudly partnered with both GNOME and Donors Choose and pledged significant financial support to help champion coding education through various programs in our schools. We have also worked in emerging markets and in prison systems with World Possible and the Foundation For Learning Equality, helping them to build products that live beyond our operating system and provide agency to those they serve. We have also executed philanthropic deployments, including a donation of 7,000 computers in 2019 to underserved children. In total, we estimate that we have provided educational tools for approximately 150,000 kids in need. Endless has become more than an organization that has merely built an operating system. We are an organization that executes impact investments, philanthropic partnerships, and builds our own products.
With these new developments reenergizing me, I would like to leave you with this battle cry. People in the open-source community, please participate in what we are doing! Non-profit organizations who care about delivering internet access and computers to those beyond the reach of connectivity and bandwidth, join us if you haven’t already. Tell us how we can help you. We want to harness the power of this community to achieve our shared vision.
At Endless we remain focused on building technology that cultivates digital agency among youth and aspire to build a network of creators sharing the same values and drive. We look forward to sharing more updates and exciting news in the coming months.
