Endless and GGJ Announce Microgrants Available for Developing Education & Learning Games!
In January, more than 30,000 gamers from 100 countries came together to build 5,860 new video games during The Global Game Jam - a worldwide 48-hour “hackathon” focused on game development, inspired by the idea that creating video games can bring people together to be creative, share experiences, and drive self-expression. From puzzle games focused on shadows and lights to magical quests, the games, focused on the topic of “duality,” leveraged a variety of game design techniques, coding languages, and themes.
Here at Endless, we believe that inspiring kids to become creators in the modern digital economy involves harnessing the power of cutting edge games to advance education.
That’s why we’re partnering with The GGJ to launch a microgrant program to support new and emerging game designers in leveraging their GGJ creations for the power of education.
The program is designed for game creators who wish to further develop their games that are focused on the purpose of education and/or incorporates learning themes.
Program Details
Here are the details for participating in this microgrant program:
The program is open to applicants worldwide who have participated in a Global Game Jam event (any year).
These grants are for games that are already in development at least to a playable prototype stage.
Your game must clearly be focused on an educational theme and/or learning objective.
Ideally, your game was initially created during a Global Game Jam event, but that is not a requirement.
Applicants who receive microgrant funds will be required to submit monthly progress reports and updates on the game’s development.
Grant applications will remain open, but application reviews and disbursements will be conducted in 4-week cycles. A grant committee will review applications every month. We will then notify you about your grant status as soon as a determination is made the following month, within 2-3 weeks.
Grants will be awarded until the microgrant fund is exhausted.
We can’t wait to see - and play! - the learning games that come out of the grant program. With the creativity and skill set needed to build a playable game in just 48 hours, there’s no doubt the microgrant recipients will build games that will push the educational game field forward.
